Introduction

The team's goal is to understand the contribution of a single neuron to the brain's seemingly infinite computational capacity by studying elementary neural processes.

We focus on the electrical and synaptic functions of neurons in the hippocampus and aim to unravel the mechanisms underlying these diverse phenomena down to the level of ion channels and fundamental biophysical properties. To this end, we use unique insight-generating methods such as electrophysiological recordings from axons and voltage imaging techniques, complemented by anatomical studies and modelling.

Our research group was established in 2009 with the support of the MTA Lendület programme and an international grant from the Wellcome Trust. Recently, the European Research Council has provided significant support for our research.
