Overall aim of our research team is to understand the logic underlying the circuit operation in neuronal networks.
To achieve this goal, we study the cellular, synaptic and circuit functions of various brain structures, focusing primarily on cortical regions such as the prefrontal cortex, basolateral amygdala and hippocampus. The complex mechanisms underlying the neuronal operation are investigated by a combination of different techniques, including viral tracing, electrophysiological recordings and imaging methods. The importance of our research goals are highlighted by the observations that in many mental disorders neuronal networks malfunction as a result of aberrant operation of specific neuron types, restoring of which may reduce the devastating symptoms.
