Scientific Reports publication with Sanyi's contribution
A new manuscript was published in Scientific Reports by Sandor’s first co-authorship
contribution, investigating the neuromodulatory effect of infrared illumination.
The principal investigator of the project was Zoltán Fekete, a senior research fellow of
Pázmány Péter Catholic University, Faculty of Information Technology and Bionics.
Unfortunately, there is limited information on the effect of infrared light on neurons,
including physiological and pathological regards. The aim of the research was to create
and to validate a microscale implantable optrode, that can record electrophysiological
signals of neurons and to modulate their activity using invisible light, while the brain
tissue damage is minimalized. The sharp tip implant was effectively used to suppress
the firing rate of neuronal populations and according to histological staining it did not
result in significant changes in cell density.
