Once again, we must say goodbye . . .

Today, there are very few of us left who knew Judit Szelényi as an active researcher and scientific advisor. Judit earned her doctorate in biological sciences in 1982 and had been retired for many years, but despite her advanced age, she regularly visited our institute. Her dedication to research was evident in the way she took advantage of the institute's access to scientific journals, reading the latest scientific findings that interested her in the small room provided for her.

We bid farewell to our old and esteemed colleague with the words of the former president of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Academician Szilveszter Vizi:

"Judit joined my group more than 20 years ago. She showed an unprecedented interest in neuroimmunology and immunomodulatory systems, and she quickly adapted to our work style. Her original way of thinking and effective approach are evidenced by the 12 papers we published together in highly respected journals in the field of research (Immunology, J. Immunology, J. Endocrinology).

Her research character was characterized by the investigation of causal relationships. As a physician, I particularly appreciated his keen interest in the balance between proinflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines, which play a role in the human immune system and respond to stimuli from both the external and internal environments, and in changes to this balance. Not only the symptoms this has, but also the diseases evoked by these causes.
