Connections of the amygdala

The amygdala is a central element of the brain’s emotional network, but there are a lot of unresolved questions around this brain region.

Embedded in a complex network of cortical and subcortical pathways, the amygdala is one of the most enigmatic regions of the brain. It has been implicated in healthy emotion-regulation and learning, while its malfunctions are responsible for a line of psychiatric conditions, such as anxiety or post-traumatic stress disorder.

In our lab, we use the combination of neuroanatomical and electrophysiological techniques to better understand the internal and external connectivity of the amygdala and related structures. We hope that our research helps us answer some of the most interesting questions about emotion-regulation.
